TEACHING PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT
The Teaching Performance Assessment is a state created assessment that measure the teaching performance students entering into the K-12 public school and are at an accredited university for receiving their multiple subject and/or single subject credential. "This assessment of teaching performance is designed to measure the candidate's knowledge, skills and ability with relation to California's Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs), including demonstrating his/her ability to appropriately instruct all K-12 students in the Student Academic Content Standards" (CCTC, 2010). The assessment is separated into several sections and each focuses on a specific area of teaching and demonstration on "subject-specific pedagogy, designing and implementing instruction and student assessment, and a culminating teaching experience or event". The TPA are not a substitute for the classroom observeration and supervised visits, but an additional task to be completed by the accrediting student. The TPA candidate's scores are given by state trained assessors against one or more rubrics that specifies the factor of performance relative to each task or activity instructed for the candidate to complete.
